Yesterday morning I had every intention of getting home last night and eagerly posting the day’s events. I think I was aiming a bit too high, LOL.
The crowds this year were MUCH bigger than last year’s or any previous A-Day’s I had ever attended! A record audience in attendance, Bama fans and alumni were literally overfilling the 92,138 stadium capacity. (I was later told that police had to turn many fans away!) I saw many reporters were invited as media coaches — smart move, Coach Saban! The team looked and sounded great, and I can honestly saw that most Bama fans, if not all, were just as excited as I am and are eagerly awaiting the upcoming season. We have a hard schedule ahead, but I think we could have a very strong year with the new coach. The White team won over Crimson, 20-13. Great game, guys!
I did manage to snap off a few shots and will post the link below, as well as a quick video of the crowded stadium. (Sorry, no sound … my camera does not have a mic!) We left early yesterday morning, literally at the crack of dawn, and met up with Teresa and her family. We had a great time! Cooked out, walked around campus, and spoke with a lot of fellow fans. I met several really interesting families and exchanged email addresses and business cards (for those who had them). Met one gent who worked for a Raleigh North Carolina real estate agency who was in town for the event — what a drive!
In fact, it surprised me how many out-of-state fans we saw who had driven down! The winner was a New Yorker who drives her RV down for the A-Day game and each home game every year!
Getting down there was a pretty smooth ride — getting out of there, however, was another story. Traffic was horrendous. Jess and I left towards the end of the third quarter (which obviously is where my pictures ended). Even leaving so soon before the end of the game, we still sat in traffic longer than I would have liked. It took us over 2 1/2 hours to get off campus, and another hour to get to the interstate. From that point, it was stop and go until just about B’ham city limits.
It took almost exactly 4 hours to get home, and by the time I got in last night, I was absolutely exhausted. :P Luckily I had slathered Jessie with enough sunscreen so she wasn’t sunburned, but I was which is probably why I was so tired. (That, and I didn’t sleep much the night before … was too excited!) The tops of my hands and wrists are red, as are my ears and a small patch on each shoulder, but overall we did well. It wasn’t too hot, the weather was great, and the band played gloriously. You couldn’t have asked for a better day for the A-Day game!
See for yourself … :)
