[ 1950 – 2003 ]
This page is in memory of my “adoptive Grammy”, Bobbi Deschene, who passed away February 19th, 2003. I first met this remarkable woman through my original SATUF mailing list on Listbot in 1998. She was one of my first subscribers. She emailed me one time, we hit it off immediately, and quickly became very close friends. Over the years, she had become family to me, and me to her. I called her “Grammy”, as she often looked over me like a loving grandmother would, and also because she kept telling people I was her adopted granddaughter.
Over the years, she had been one of my most trusted and closest friends. She helped me through some rough personal times, and downfalls in my life. She’s watched me grow as a person, and I’m saddened that I could not share more time with her, and cannot tell her these things now. She knew I loved her, but still it would have been nice to tell her one more time.
This page is small tribute to her memory. I regret that I lost the majority of pictures I had of her. She was a beautiful person, with a quick sarcastic wit, and the biggest heart I have ever known. One thing that most of you don’t know about her was that she was also an activist for the rights of Methadone patients — as she was a patient herself. I was able to archive a few of her articles and posts about a year or so ago. I had originally had them online for her on the NE-NAMA site. (The N.ew E.ngland Chapter of the N.ational A.lliance of M.ethadone A.dvocates) Those articles are posted below on the NE-NAMA link — that is what is left of the original site I had online for her and her organization. One of those articles is her personal story, how she fell from grace, lost everything, then began the recovery process.
If any of you who knew her have more pictures and/or postings of hers, please feel free to send them my way.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I– I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. – R. Frost
To Bobbi, wherever you are: I love you, Grammy. I will never forget you, or what you’ve done for me.
